- New apps encourage decentralized behavior.
- The phone is shipping this summer.
Pundi, the creators of the first blockchain point-of-service system, showed The Block their latest mobile device, the Pundi X. This phone – which is shipping in July or August – offers a “regular” mode and a “blockchain” mode that runs decentralized apps. Their latest creation? Something called dUber that taxi drivers can use to pick up riders without relying on a centralized server.
Details are slim but generally the system will store the metadata – the initiating and terminating requests – on the blockchain and offer a completely decentralized way to pay for rides, mobile minutes, and data. The package is quite compact and, while it isn’t a Samsung foldable, quite handsome.
The idea of a blockchain phone has long haunted the crypto community and this wild ride into hardware might be just what it needs to start building real mobile crypto apps.
